Choose You This Day

By: Chibuzor F. Ogamba

Choose you this day,
Two arms reach out to me,
Each one reaching deep,
And touching the deepest desire,

Choose you this day,
Tormented every day,
Tested in every single way,
By desire that knows not its needs,

Choose you this day,
The beauty of life and yet the horror of it,
The pursuit of the one thing I know not,
Yet finding so many that seem like it,

Choose you this day,
A phrase which seems to help,
But one which leaves you helpless,
For in the end it’s your choice to make,

And no matter the choice you make,
No matter the decision you take,
The results are yours to bear,
Yours and yours alone,

It’s said we choose the way we live,
That no matter the choice we make,
The beauty is in the fact that we made it,
This then appears to be the heart of life,

For have they not lived,
Those who chose to war and those who fought to deaths,
Those who acted when it was necessary and those who used certain devises,
Those who used what they had and those who never for once resisted,

Choose you this day,
Is only beautiful if I do not in the end,
Regret that I did not live,
if I don’t hate myself for doing nothing,

Choose you this day,
Is only precious if I do not at last,
Hate that I wasn’t brave enough,
To bear the results for my acts,

Choose you this day,
Is amazing if only in the end,
I do not regret having not lived myself,
But having left others to live for me,

And yet choose you this day,
Is only bliss if I when all is done,
Realize that indeed there was a right choice,
And it was the one I did make,
